Spotlight on Little Kerning House: Custom Buttons for the Perfect Girls Trip!

Celebrations like birthdays or bachelorette parties are where lifelong memories are made. Creating custom buttons for these events add a special touch to the experience, making them unforgettable. Karen Carrillo, founder of Little Kerning House, created buttons perfect for any trip or group outing. I loved her designs and wanted to know more about her inspiration. Enjoy my chat with her below!

ED: For those that aren't familiar, could you tell me a little bit about Little Kerning House?

KC: Little Kerning House is my one-woman small business that I started last year after I was laid off from my job as an Art Director. It is both a design studio where I do freelance design projects and also an online shop where I make and sell things that I want to see out in the world.

ED: I love your merit badge buttons! How does your shop use them?

KC: Thank you! I actually designed them for my birthday, and now they’ve become one of my bestsellers. I thought it would be fun to create a larger set for people to use at their birthday party or a bachelorette trip. Someone said they were perfect for a superlatives award ceremony at the end of a girls' trip. Some have put them on sashes like actual scout badges. I love making something that will be a reminder of a fun trip or special day.

ED: How do you decide what artwork to use?

KC: I like to choose and create artwork that is relatable, a bit tongue in cheek, colorful, and easy to read and understand from afar or at a glance.

ED: What made you decide to order with Busy Beaver?

KC: Is it weird to say that I just felt a good vibe? No but seriously, at first it was because I loved that the company was eco-friendly and it was super simple to order. I was also excited by the Button Museum and just a general sense of passion for the art of making buttons.

ED: I love your artwork! What’s your favorite use-case that you’ve heard?

KC: Thank you! Someone said they were perfect for a superlatives award ceremony at the end of a girls' trip. Some have put them on sashes like actual scout badges. I love making something that will be a reminder of a fun trip or special day.
